A Baroque Tour-de-Force - 23.05.06
Following the enthusiastic reception of this concert by guest of the Solti Foundation in London earlier this month, Tenebrae joins again with specialist baroque orchestra The English Concert for a performance of one of the most stunning and virtuosic choral tour-de-forces of all time, Handel’s ‘Dixit Dominus’.
Written whilst Handel was still a young man and under the influence of his travels and study in Italy, it displays an almost unnerving degree of eighteenth century exuberance. Nigel Short will direct Tenebrae and the English Concert at Salisbury Cathedral on 30th May at 19h30.
Other works will include ‘Zadok the Priest’, ‘My heart is inditing’ and ‘Arrival of the Queen of Sheba’ and ‘Concerto Grosso Op6/6’.
This concert was picked out by Classic FM magazine as the ‘Hot Ticket’ of the Salisbury 2006 Festival.
