Lady Valerie Solti celebrates her 70th with help from Tenebrae - 21.08.07

Lady Solti 70th

A balmy summer evening, a swiss alpine meadow high in the alps, a backdrop of steep rock faces tinted orange by the setting sun… the setting for Lady Valerie Solti’s surprise 70th birthday party.

Lady Solti, family, friends (and dog) were met by the fanfare of six Alp Horns. This was followed by short performances by Tenebrae throughout the evening and arias from two young opera singers Eliana Pretorian and Seung Wook from the Solti Foundation (deftly accompanied by Alexander L’Estrange on piano) .

Guests reclined in deck chairs, ate ‘Raclette’ and drank local wines whilst enjoying the music and the views.

Nigel Short took the opportunity to thank Lady Solti for her continued friendship and support of Tenebrae over the past 6 years, saying that he was ‘pleased and proud’ that he and the singers were able to be present to help her celebrate her birthday
