England’s Finest

Posted on 17 June 2013

2013 marks the centenary of the birth of British composer Benjamin Britten, with celebrations of his life and music taking place across the country. As part of this, our performances at two leading UK Festivals highlight some of Britten’s own choral repertoire, as well as looking at the work of his contemporaries in a celebration of British music over the last 100 years. With works by Holst, Walton, Vaughan Williams, Howells and Parry, as well as contemporary composer Paul Mealor, the programme gives a crystal clear view of the wide ranging styles and skills of England’s finest composers over the last 100 years.

Thaxted Festival celebrating “The Riches of British Music” in 2013, was started by Gustav Holst in 1916 when he was living in the town, and the modern Festival was started by the late Michael Snow in 1980. We perform in Thaxted Church on 22 June, for full information on the festival, please click here.

Gregynog Festival, the oldest classical music festival in Wales, is curated on a special theme drawn from the history of Gregynog and music in Wales. Their season highlights the composer’s Welsh connections including his appearance with Peter Pears and Osian Ellis at the 1972 Gregynog Festival. We appear there on Saturday 30th June, for full information, please click here.
