Guest blog: London Youth Choir working with Tenebrae

Passion Precision, Partnership and Pleasure!

A word from Rachel Staunton, Artistic Director of London Youth Choir, one of Tenebrae’s Choral Development Partners

“In my view, the joy of a good partnership is the sharing of differences, the bringing together of contrasting approaches, and the ever evolving experience of corporate music making. When Tenebrae asked London Youth Choir in 2015 to be one of their Choral Development Partners we were thrilled and honoured. At LYC we strive to inspire young Londoners (via the medium of choral music and performance) to rise above their circumstance and aspire to be the best they can be. We want to create fantastic singers, but more than that, create people who belong to a diverse community in London, experience the thrill of performing with different people, and who are equipped to thrive in their future lives.

“For our members to work with pro singers of Tenebrae is inspirational. To have the opportunity to ask questions about their training, life on tour, or their singing technique is invaluable. For our senior singers to be rehearsed and conducted by Nigel Short provides an unforgettable experience, and gives huge personal insight into the pro singing world.

“A parent recently remarked to me after a concert how their sons’ time in the choir had been about so much more than the music making. She told of how the musicians he had had the opportunity to work with had become his key role-models. Tenebrae are doing their bit to support, inspire and rise up the next generation, and the affect is awesome. Come and see for yourself on Friday 7th July, where we will be performing Owain Park’s London premiere of Footsteps alongside Tenebrae at St Bartolomew-the-Great as part of the Voices of London Festival.”
