Pärt Passio with Aurora Orchestra
- 25 March 2018
- 6:30 pm
- St George’s Bristol
Following their recent sell-out performance of Fauré’s Requiem at St George’s, the stunningly high calibre musicians of Tenebrae and Aurora are reunited here for a performance of Arvo Pärt’s extraordinary setting of the St John Passion. Known widely as ‘Passio’ since its debut recording on ECM New Series in the 1980s, the Estonian master’s Passiontide work, setting chapters 18 and 19 from St John’s gospel, has an austere, solemn, monolithic beauty which has entranced many listeners since.
“You couldn’t have asked for a better performance: plush choral sound, heartfelt solos… rich contributions from the Aurora Orchestra and all immaculately sculpted by Short.” The Times
