Haydn considered his ‘Seven Last Words’ to be one of his greatest works superior to either of his later oratorios, ‘The Creation’ and ‘The Seasons’. It is performed in its most popular quartet setting by the illustrious Brodsky Quartet. Meditative music on sitar and tabla is interwoven with Gesualdo’s Responsories for Holy Saturday sung by the handpicked voices of Tenebrae.
