BBC Music Magazine Awards 2012

Posted on 13 April 2012

We’re delighted to announce that after two nominations in the Choral category of the BBC Music Magazine Awards – the first time a group has been nominated more than once in the same category – we took the award for our recording of Victoria: Requiem Mass, 1605. Many thanks to all our supporters and readers of BBC Music Magazine who voted for us! Our heartfelt thanks goes out to not only the singers involved with this particular recording, but to all those involved with the choir over the last ten years who have helped build and cement the choir’s reputation as one of the world’s leading chamber ensembles.

The group was present at the awards ceremony at Kings Place, London on Thursday 12 April, where we performed Alonso Lobo’s Versa est in luctum. Hosts Oliver Condy and James Naughtie said of the group: “Well, this choir seems to have everything, our jury said – deep musical insight, technical finesse and an utterly mesmerising balance and poise. Beautiful singing for one the choral world’s great masterpieces”.

Artistic Director Nigel Short thanked Steve Long at Signum Records for his support of Tenebrae since its foundation a decade ago. He also thanked producer Nick Parker for his work on both nominated recordings and dedicated the award to the memory of our co-founder Barbara Pollock.
