Lady Valerie Solti

Posted on 2 April 2021

Nigel Short writes:

It is with great sadness that we have learned of Lady Valerie Solti’s passing. Valerie was a most wonderful supporter and Patron of Tenebrae, a close friend of our late co-founder Barbara Pollock, and was with us every step of the way on our very first tour in Switzerland back in 2001. Unfailingly positive, kind, energetic and encouraging of myself and all our young singers Valerie was always keen for Tenebrae to reach new audiences and was constantly coming up with great ideas as to how we could achieve this.

Many Tenebrae auditions were held in the music studio of Valerie’s late husband, Sir George, and it was often Valerie herself who would open the door to welcome in youngsters with a warm smile and gentle encouragement. She was a huge force for good in the world of classical music and will be sorely missed by all who knew her and had the pleasure of meeting and working with her.

We pass on our sincere condolences to daughters Claudia and Gabrielle and all of Valerie’s family.
