Tenebrae and Britten Sinfonia: 5 star review from the Telegraph

Posted on 30 March 2026

We were delighted to receive a 5 star review from the Telegraph yesterday for our performance of MacMillan’s Seven Last Words from the Cross with Britten Sinfonia at St Martin-in-the-Fields over the weekend. Reviewed in the ‘Best of March’s Classical Concerts’ section, the performance was described as “deeply moving as well as thought-provoking”, and they commented that “Nigel Short brought out the still core of the music as well as its drama, and made sure all the modernistic effects has the luminous clarity of an icon”.

We will be performing this programme one more time with Britten Sinfonia on 2 April at Snape Maltings Concert Hall (currently 6 tickets remaining!), and Telegraph subscribers can read the full review online.

Hear this concert on BBC Radio 3 on 2 April and for 30 days after on BBC Sounds.
