Choral Development Partnerships going from strength to strength

Posted on 9 July 2018

Tenebrae’s Associate Artists lead a session at Music Centre London, Islington

We were delighted to team up once again with our partners, the London Youth Choir and Music Centre London, for the 2017-18 season to provide choral development opportunities for a total of 660 children and young people (aged 7-21 years) from communities across London. Through a series of workshops led by Tenebrae’s Associate Artists, we sought to enhance the choral knowledge, technique and experience of the participants.

These exciting and beneficial partnerships culminated at Music Centre London’s annual showcase concert at Union Chapel, Islington in July where our Associate Artists sang alongside members of their choirs. Richard Frostick, Director of Music Centre London, was delighted with the opportunity this programme afforded his students:

The young singers in the senior choirs at the Music Centre have open minds about repertoire and are very keen and curious to move into new areas of musical experience. There has been no better way to satisfy this curiosity than to present them with a practical engagement with Tenebrae’s highly-trained singers. Enthusiasm is contagious. By working alongside professional experts they have gained valuable insight into repertoire and technique and cultivated their interest in new areas of musical learning. In short, our relationship with Tenebrae over the past two years has made a real contribution to the music education of our children and young people.

Tenebrae continues to collaborate with the London Youth Choir and Music Centre London into the 2018-19 season. These workshops are most effectively presented in conjunction with a Tenebrae concert – enabling participants to see first-hand how our professional singers employ the same techniques the young people have learnt in a live performance. To this end, each partner is offered subsidised concert tickets for their members to attend one of our London concerts during the 2018-19 artistic season.

This education project is only made possible by the generous support of our donors who believe in Tenebrae’s innovative work. You can support this, and other projects, by donating through our website or by contacting Henry Southern (General Manager, Tenebrae): [email protected]
