Holy Week Festival 2018 Highlights

Posted on 2 April 2018

We’re really pleased with how well the 2018 Holy Week Festival went. We had concerts from Ex Cathedra, Temple Church Choir, our own concert of Pärt’s Passio with Aurora Orchestra, a Come and Sing Messiah, Polyphony with the Britten Sinfonia and our first international artist to join us for this festival, Skylark Ensemble. The week finished with the Tallis Scholars and Gabrieli performing Bach’s Mass in B Minor on Easter Sunday. There were also lunchtime and early evening concerts from the Choir of Royal Holloway, Etcetera Civil Service Choir, Chantage, the Choir of King’s College London and The Gesualdo Six. Particular highlights for us were the free late night liturgical events which gave us the opportunity to explore Łukaszewski’s Tenebrae Responsories in an atmospheric candlelit setting. We are soon to be releasing an album of Łukaszewski’s music, you can pre-order a copy on the shop page.

“Nigel Short’s superbly vibrant choir Tenebrae, the four soloists and instrumentalists from the Aurora Orchestra made even Pärt’s smallest musical moves throb with emotion and drama…. I wasn’t merely listening to this music; I came to feel I was living inside it… a performance to remember.”  The Times

Here’s a video of our highlights:

The next Holy Week Festival will take place 14-29 April 2019 at St John Smith Square – save the date!
