Here’s a round up of all we’ve been up to in a busy May this year. We started the month with a day of rehearsals for both the programmes we would be taking away on tour, and then straight on to Sherborne Abbey for our first concert on 4th May. This building is absolutely beautiful, and with a stunning acoustic to match an engaged audience enjoyed our England’s Finest programme, including Howell’s Requiem, Parry Songs of Farewell, Bingham A Walk with Ivor Gurney from our latest recording and many more highlights from the English choral repertoire.
Next was a real treat for us, a stunning concert on 10th May in the Chapel of King’s College Cambridge of Victoria’s Requiem preceded by his Tenebrae Responsories for Holy Saturday. Thank you to Cambridge Early Music Festival for having us in such a special venue, we thoroughly enjoyed it! The next day took us to Guildford for the Investec International Music Festival. Another delightful concert and thank you to the attendees who came to the rehearsal and sang Tallis’ If ye love me with us at the end!
The next Monday we had an easy start at Norwich Cathedral for another outing of our England’s Finest programme, with Owain Park’s Footsteps, sung brilliantly by the girls and boys of Norwich Cathedral Choir. Then swiftly on to Newbury for the Newbury Festival and another rendition of the Victoria programme.
That weekend, 18-19th May, we had an early start to fly us out to Milan for a concert in Cremona, the home of the Stradivarius and the violin-making capital of Europe. Unfortunately the plan for a concert outside in a nearby cloister was rained off in the downpour we managed to bring with us, but the alternative venue was stunning and made very atmospheric with these outdoor candles.
Finally our last concert of May was Fairford last Friday, a final showing of the Victoria programme in a lovely Cotswolds village to finish off the month.
Thanks to all the festivals for looking after us and we look forward to returning to you soon!
