US Tour Blog: Princeton – Rachel Haworth

Posted on 8 November 2022

Day 2 of tour kicked off with an early start in order to make our flight from Orlando to Newark. We were on our way to Princeton and very excited about it! Free Wi-Fi and a choice of complimentary snacks helped the flight pass rather quickly, along with the incredible views of New York City during our descent.

After our flight the transfer to Princeton felt like a brief step back in time aboard the Princeton Dinky and we enjoyed the views before embarking upon the uphill trek from the station to our hotel. Such a physical feat was quickly redeemed however by the aesthetic autumnal surroundings of the Princeton University campus which presented many a photo opportunity.

With a few hours to spare before our workshop many of us ventured out to explore Princeton. While some chose to visit the Princeton University store for stash, others sampled the unique culinary delights Princeton had to offer, including brussel sprout tacos – proclaimed by Hannah as “the best brussel sprouts I have ever eaten” – and pumpkin ice cream. A shout out must go to Biscuit the corgi and his owner for their recommendations of things to see while in Princeton!

In the evening it was time for our workshop at the incredible Princeton University Chapel, apparently the third largest chapel in the world! After a very warm welcome we were reunited with Gabriel Crouch who led a series of short sessions with the choirs of John P Stevens High School, Kean University, the Princeton University Chamber Choir and Glee Club. It was fantastic to hear each choir’s individual sound and have the opportunity to explore some of their repertoire ourselves.

Our workshop culminated in a fabulous joint performance of Harris’ Faire is the Heaven with the Princeton University Glee Club. Much to our excitement, we were offered Glee Club stash afterwards which proved very popular and we left the chapel decked in caps and jumpers!

Repping our “New Jerseys” (credit to Tom Lowen), many of us finished off the evening with a few drinks in the Alchemist & Barrister bar. Thank you Princeton for a wonderful day – we are only sad we couldn’t stay longer!
